Kukur Tihar falls on Sunday 8 November 2026 (Kartik 22, 2083 BS), the second day of Tihar. In 2026 it shares the day with Laxmi Puja. Tihar runs from Kaag Tihar on 7 November to Bhai Tika on 11 November.

The puja
Families put a marigold garland and a red tika on the dog, then offer food: meat, eggs, milk or sel roti. Keep the tika away from the eyes and nose, and the garland loose at the neck. Give the treats in small amounts; a full bowl of sel roti upsets a dog’s stomach.
